Hi there
When I play songs I've recorded from vinyl on my iPod, they are always quieter than the tunes I've bought as MP3s direct to iTunes. Is there a way I can boost my Audacity-recorded files before I encrypt to MP3?
I've been experimenting with the 'Normalisation' function. But I'm not a recording engineer or mathematician, so the nature of +ve/-ve dBs has always foxed me a bit, I must confess...
Make it louder?

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Re: Make it louder?
The MP3s you've obtained have probably been remastered to make them sound louder. The Normalize function in Audacity will maximize the amplitude of the song according to the maxiumum peak. This does not necessarily translate into "louder". Since you are recording from vinyl you should make sure you do click removal before normalizing.

Re: Make it louder?
You could always try using the iTunes/iPod function which levels out the amplitude across all the "songs" in your library.
