Transferring portions between tracks

Post by Frungi » Sun Jun 12, 2011 7:23 am

Is there any way to do something like select a small section of a stereo track and replace the right channel with the left in that section? The simplest way I can see to do this is to copy the section in the left track, note the selection start/end times, manually enter those times to select the same section of the right track, Generate > Silence, and paste. Surely I’m missing something simpler…

I assume you have split the stereo track into two tracks. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Track_Drop-Down_Menu - Split Stereo Track

Drag the selection across both tracks - fine tune if necessary
Edit > Clip Boundaries > Split
Double-click in the left-channel clip to select it
Edit > Copy
Double-click in the right channel clip to select it
Edit > Paste

Steve wrote a Nyquist plug-in to do this task: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 44&t=53929

Thanks, this splitting method is much better. Haven’t tried the plugin yet, but I’m surprised it (or something like it) isn’t included by default.

Some of the developers are of the opinion that Effect menu is already too long and are reluctant to add more effects.
There are a lot of additional effects available on the Audacity wiki, and you can find the latest version of the "Channel Repair" plug-in there: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyqui ... ir_Channel
