Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Recording with my Mac 10.6.7

Post by bickley » Tue Jun 07, 2011 1:43 am

Have no luck recording on my Mac.
I found out now that I am recording from my external speakers, play back is therefore poor.
Anybody can help me what settings to use?
Started out with Audacity 1.2.5, deleted that and installed the Beta version.
Your help is appreciated.

You don't give us enough information for us to be able to help you...

What are you trying to record with what and how? We can't guess...

What's your recording source? Internal mic? External mic? Some other device? How do you have it all connected?
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

People who post vague like that almost always are trying to record YouTube or internet audio. Are you?

Sorry about my vague request.
Trying to record from You Tube, it does record ,but only from my external speakers.
Obviously my settings are wrong, have no idea how to set it for an inside mike, or perhaps some other setting I would need.
Don't seem to have a choice on the top of audacity to change that.
It does play back OK, but sound quality is poor.
So, I am looking to record from You Tube, but not via my external speakers.
Hope this helps.

To record what's playing on the computer you need soundflower, read more about it on this wiki topic: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recor ... mputer#Mac

You can also dowload youtube videos using mpegstreamclip: http://www.squared5.com/
You need the beta version, the stable won't work with youtube.

There are also a few plugins for firefox that allow you to download and save video/audio streams from some websites.
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).
