Unplug the USB connection and try connecting direct from the RCA sockets on the turntable to the line-in on the Mac, as Bill and Koz suggested, with the cable shown in Koz's link. Note that I was assuming the turntable has a permanently-attached RCA cable for connecting to a stereo, thus the need for an adapter with female RCA sockets.
