Audacity program quitting

When using Audacity on my imac computer (Version 10.5.4) I am unable to copy a record.
First, when I Click on "Monitor Input" the program will quit. The message that comes up
is "Audacity not responding".
Second, sometimes the "Monitor Input" works but then when I push the "Record" but the program quits.
same message comes up.
I've been on the phone for two days with the Technical Support People at ion-audio and it has been
narrowed down to a problem with Audacity as to how it relates to an imac.
I NEED HELP!

There is an interaction problem between Audacity, the computer, and USB turntables. They don't always get along so well. We think a few too many quality shortcuts were taken in the wrong places. Just a note; I just paid for a phono cartridge more than you paid for the whole turntable, digital audio system, software, and cables. They do not have a good reputation here.

It usually doesn't outright fail. You're one of the lucky ones. Usually it hangs on and creates damage for days until you finally catch on there's something wrong.

The turntable supplier can't ever admit there's something wrong, so those poor service guys have to spend hours with each customer secure in the knowledge that once it fails, you're dead. Nobody has ever recovered from a turntable crash.

...unless you want to try the analog route. That's remarkably stable. Same Audacity--although we would recommend you do a program upgrade if you feel like it. The one that comes with the turntables is a little old.
