Play bar jumps ahead of wave form is this normal

Post by costalive » Tue Mar 01, 2011 9:18 pm

During recording the playbar jumps a head of the wave form is this normal?
I am used to other audio editing software that the playbar stays right where the wave form is being created.

i am running Audacity driver 1.3.12 it is the only driver that would allow me to record
I tried driver 1.2.6 it loaded but would not record / no wave form showed that sound was not being recorded / just a growing flat line in the time line.

I am using a
MAC dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC
OS X version 10.4.11
6G DDR SDRAM
M-Audio Delta 44 sound card
driver: Delta OS X 2.0.8 .dmg

i am force to use a Mac now and used to used Audacity with a PC and loved it.
So i am a Mac /Audacity newbie now.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Yes, this is normal. The recording cursor indicates where the audio is being recorded. It takes Audacity a bit of time to calculate and display the waveform. You'll note that when you press stop the cursor stops and the calculation and drawing of the waveform catches up. I see this on my dual 2 GHz G5 running Audacity 1.3.12. It has never bothered me, as I am confident that what I hear is being recorded.
