No Sound from Bluetooth Headphones

I'm running Audacity 1.3.12, on a MAC Mini with OS 10.6.5. My bluetooth headphones are connected, and I can hear iTunes. I selected my headphones as the playback device in Audacity preferences. When I try to play a file from Audacity, I get a message that says I should check the output device settings and the project rate. The project rate is 44,100 hz, and the device info for the headphones is:
Device name: Core Audio: GBMH211W6
Input channels: 0
Output channels: 2
Low Input Latency: 0.010000
Low Output Latency: 0.139320
High Input Latency: 0.100000
High Output Latency: 1.393197
Supported Rates:
8000
9600
11025
12000
15000
16000
22050
24000
32000
44100
48000
88200
96000
192000
Any idea why I can't playback AUD files through the headphones?

No, but I know where I'd look.
Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Output and make sure your headphones or the chip set or software package is selected.
Close that and Go > Utilities > Audio Midi Setup and see of those settings make sense to you. Then restart Audacity.

Thanks Koz, but I've checked all these settings and the same problem persists. I can listen to iTunes on my bluetooth headphones, but not Audacity. Audacity plays back fine through my USB DAC.

i see "2ch-32bit" for the output audio device in Audio MIDI Setup. What happens if you change that to 16-bit?

Hi Bill,
Good question, however there is no 16 bit option for the headphones in Audio/Midi. In addition, Audacity Preferences > Quality > Rate is set to "32 bit float".

Apropos of nothing, Phan. And completely unhelpful to your problem. I just hung up on the family room wall a beautiful panorama of the '08 dogpile in the midst of an exploding Bank. I think I'll put a Harry and Whitey bobblehead pair in the bookcase facing it. And hanging it still brought a tear.

This is probably bug 167
http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167
Reading through the comments on that page it appears this may have been fixed in the 1.3.13 alpha as of July 5 2010. If you are feeling adventurous, you could download and try an alpha build from this page:
http://www.audacity.homerow.net/index.p ... order=desc . Choose the "2010-12-15" build, as later ones have work being done on a new feature. Put the contents of the dmg in a separate folder inside your Applications folder, and create a folder named "Portable Settings" inside that folder - this will keep the alpha settings separate from your usual settings. You would really be helping us out if you tried this and let us know what happens.
If you read the bugzilla page you will also see a suggestion for a workaround - using Soundflower to route the audio output from Audacity to an audio application that supports the headset.
