I am on a MacPro Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per processor):4 MB Memory:2 GB, 500G hard drive and OS 10.6.5.
I have only 321G of actual memory being used, but am now told I have 4.8g left. Is Audacity freezing up memory in "/tmp/audacity1.2-nealmacpro/audacity_temp/", which I can not figure how to get into and is there a way to clear the memory? Thanks. Neal

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Re: Memory Issues
The messages suggest you're using Audacity 1.2. You need to stop doing that right away. Audacity 1.2 is no longer supported for any platform and can be profoundly unstable in Snow Leopard.

I hope that's a typo.I have only 321G of actual memory being used
I would not have put my email address on a public forum -- unless, of course, it's fake. Shall I remove the posting and start over?

Re: Memory Issues
I think you mean "hard disk space" - not "memory" which implies "RAM".[email protected] wrote:Is Audacity freezing up memory in "/tmp/audacity1.2-nealmacpro/audacity_temp/", which I can not figure how to get into and is there a way to clear the memory? Thanks. Neal
In the Finder, click on Go > Go to Folder and enter that location in the dialog. Once there you should be able to delete the contents, unless that requires root access (which it shouldn't, since applications can read and write that location).
Follow Koz's advice and upgrade to 1.3.12.

Re: Memory Issues
I too have the same problem.
I am using an imac i5 2.7, 16gb ram, 1tb HD, osx 10.6.8. Audacity version 1.3.13-beta
I use audacity to import long field recordings (usually >3 hours long) then export it to a format of my choosing- usually wav, mp3. Needless to say, this takes up quite a bit of memory, however i have been experiencing huge decreases in HD space for projects and its really coming to a point that I cannot use Audacity for my work because of this (which sux because I really like using it).
Example: I made a new file and imported some audio this took about 10gb of HD space (on some projects, it has taken alot more space and hasn't given it back). That's fine. BUT, when i closed the program without saving it, the 10gb is still missing from my HD. Since I did not save it, i dont know where or how or where to find out where the 10GB is.
I restarted my computer hoping that it would clear any kind of cache but the 10gb is still missing.
This is wierd, if I do not save a session, all traces of it should not exist, correct? So where is my 10GB?
Any help on this would be very, very helpful.
Thanks in advance!
Terence
