Re: audacity doesn't pick up sound
Please don't post the same question in multiple forums. It doesn't get you answers any quicker.
What version of Audacity are you running? We can't tell, because you posted in the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.
What Mac and version of OS X are you running?
How do you mean Audacity is "reading" your sound card?

Re: audacity doesn't pick up sound
So you are trying to pick up the sound coming out the speakers? For example, record the sound of a YouTube video? If so, you external interface will not help with that. You need to install SoundFlower.alexfsu wrote:but when i play any sound on my mac, audacity doesn't pick up anything...the monitor reads 0 db's.....when i say "read" i mean i can pick it from the drop down menus for audacity's recording and playing
So Koz's comment in the 1.2.x forum if what you are trying to do is send sound into your Mac through the interface.
BTW, 1.2.x is not recommended for Snow Leopard.

Re: audacity doesn't pick up sound
my audacity used to work fine. I've upgraded my computer (dual G5, to OSX 10.5.8 and Audacity to 1.3.12). Now when I try to record by pushing the red dot button the pause button highlights as well and nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. No line, no sound, no nothing. If I push the pause button to try to make it stop pausing, nothing happens. I've checked and my Midi is set as per your instructions. The turntable is picking up the sound because I have the regular audio line connected to my receiver/amp and I can hear it perfectly .... but nothing comes thru the computer.

Check the Transport menu - you probably have sound activated recording checked.dannyb45 wrote:Now when I try to record by pushing the red dot button the pause button highlights as well and nothing happens. Do you mean Apple's Audio Midi Setup application?dannyb45 wrote:I've checked and my Midi is set as per your instructions.
Is this a USB turntable? You have set the "USB Audio Codec" as the input in Audio Midi Setup? Have you gone to Audacity > Preferences, Devices section and set the USB Audio Codec as the recording device?dannyb45 wrote:The turntable is picking up the sound because I have the regular audio line connected to my receiver/amp and I can hear it perfectly .... but nothing comes thru the computer.

I don't know what the Transport menu is ....
Yes, the Midi is set up for USB Audio CODEC as are the preferences in Audacity
I'm using an ION USB turntable
Looking under the Mac system prefs under "sound" I can see that the machine hears the music (i can see the imput levels moving) under the USB Audio CODEC selection
Sorry about the "hijacking", I didn't see a selection to start a new question ...

Re: audacity doesn't pick up sound
It's the menu at the top of the main Audacity window that says "Transport".dannyb45 wrote:I don't know what the Transport menu is ....
If that menu is not there, you probably do not have Audacity 1.3.x (This is the forum for Audacity 1.3.x on Mac OS X).
Look in the Audacity Help menu, select "About Audacity" and it will say which version of Audacity you are using.
To find the appropriate place to post, start at the "Board Index" page, then find the appropriate section for you Audacity version and operating system. That will take you to a page with a button that says "NEW TOPIC".
