Re: BAD FEEDBACK AND NO MUSIC!
Getting feedback when connecting a USB turntable is very strange. What version of OS X are you running on your G5?
Connect the turntable.
Go to System Preferences, Sound.
In the Output section, make sure that Line Out is selected.
In the Input section, make sure that USB Audio Codec is selected.
Start Audacity.
Go to Audacity > Preferences, then the Devices section. http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... references
Make sure the the Playback and Recording sections match the Input and Output setting you made in System Preferences.
Now try to record something from the USB turntable.

Re: BAD FEEDBACK AND NO MUSIC!
As Bill says, it is usually difficult to get feedback through a Mac. Soundflower is an add-on program that allows Mac users to open up addition sound pathways and thus makes it easier to create feedback loops. As you don't have Soundflower installed, it's not relevant. I'll duck out at this point (as I'm not a Mac user) and leave you with Bill's guidance.
