Project won't open after saving

I saved a project tonight and went back to open it later and got the message:
"Project check detected 1338 missing audio datablockfile[s] (.au), probably due to a bug, crash or accidental deletion"

I've read a lot on the forums about people encountering messages like this, but my problem seems different than others. When I open the .AUP file (see attached) in a text editor, I see what looks like a well-formed XML document describing my audio project. All the filenames and the location seems to be correct, and I've opened all the .AU files located in the "_data" directory without problem.

From what I can tell the answer to my problem seems to be, "Go open the individual files and recreate your recording." Due to the size and number of files this seems unrealistic. But I'm wondering if I'm missing something simple. It seems that the .AUP file is not corrupt, all the underlying data files are present and uncorrupted, and yet the file fails upon opening. Am I missing something simple here?

Thanks in advance,
Stephen

I assume that the file ndc-ws-08292010.aup and the folder ndc-ws-08292010_data are in their original locations on the disk?
If they are, then the AUP file looks fine as far as I can see.
If they have been moved or renamed, they need to be changed back.
If they have not been moved or renamed you could try changing the "h" parameter near the top of the .AUP file from h="4187.3937414966" to h="0.0"
The line begins with <project xmlns=
