How To Work With Velocity In Audacity ???

Hi
Just installed
Audacity 1.3.12 on a
Mac OS-X 10.5. I'm looking to modify Audio Files that were recorded directly from a Yamaha P-120 digital piano in to an MD Recorder, this was way before i new anything about MIDI and the audio files recorded were then set in concrete, now with Audacity i hope to change that?
I'm basically looking to modify velocity levels on some Audio files, is it possible to do this in Audacity?

Unfortunately not - it's been set in concrete. Neither Audacity nor any other audio editor can change that.
What you can do is to change the volume dynamics and tone by applying various effects, but "velocity" is a property of the MIDI data that changes the sound that is created by the synthesizer for each individual note. Trying to modify individual notes after the even would be a very long and arduous job. If you had recorded the MIDI data into a sequencer, then you would have been able to edit the note velocities and re-recorded the new audio, but without a MIDI file you can't.

Thats exactly what i meant Steve, to change the volume dynamics and tone by applying various effects, not to change actual notes as i know only MIDI technology can perform this. I'm new to Audacity, to execute this feature should i be looking under the effects tab?

A good place to start would probably be the Envelope Tool:
