But I don't want to keep repeating clicking on 'file export' and then put in the artist name and album title.
Is there a way I can batch them and export several small files to mp3?
In there a free recording program that records in .mp3 format?
I want to make several short mp3 recordings

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Re: I want to make several short mp3 recordings
You could use "Export Multiple". This will Export multiple files based on either "labels" or one file per Audacity track. http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... t_Multipleshroud wrote:I don't want to keep repeating clicking on 'file export'
Do you want to include artist name/title/... all the same for all exported tracks, or are you not bothered about metadata at all?shroud wrote:I don't want to keep repeating clicking on 'file export' and then put in the artist name and album title.
If you're not interested in metadata you can stop the metadata editor from popping up with a setting in "Preferences".
"Edit menu > Preferences > Import and Export"

What's your recording source? Are you recording from the line-in/mic? Are you ripping cds? Something else?shroud wrote:In there a free recording program that records in .mp3 format?
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).

I'm just wanting to record on the computer, but don't like having to convert to .mp3 because it's cumbersome.bgravato wrote:What's your recording source? Are you recording from the line-in/mic? In Audacity there is no way to avoid the Export step. This is how you convert your Audacity project to a format that other programs (including media players like iTunes) can understand.shroud wrote: I'm just wanting to record on the computer, but don't like having to convert to .mp3 because it's cumbersome.
As Steve pointed out, you can use Export Multiple to "batch" export multiple sections of one track (via labels), or multiple tracks.
In my workflow, I export to AIF (much faster), then drag the exported files into iTunes and let iTunes do the conversion to MP3 (iTunes does the conversion faster than Audacity can).
