Auto Back.....?

MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Leopard OS-X 10.5.8
Audacity 1.3.12

I recorded a live five minute presentation and saved the Project as music-a.
Then I recorded a second five minute presentation and pressed Save Project by accident.

[booming kettle drum sound]

I then saved the second one again as music-b.

The first music-a Project appears to be completely gone as if it never existed. I'm very clear an old Audacity would make a music-a.bak when I did that, but there seems to be no such thing on this machine with this version.

I went down /Library/ Application Support/audacity/AutoSave/ and the folder is empty. There doesn't seem to be a preference setting where I turn backups off.

Ooops -> Undo -> Save Project -> Redo -> Save Project As (with new name).

It doesn't answer your question, but it gets you out of the fix.

No Edit > Undo. Do you kill the UNDO when you save the Project (second show) with a new name?

Do I sense the idea that Audacity doesn't do BAK files any more and I'm hosed? Or is this a Mac thing and I found an Unintended Feature.

You only kill "undo" if you close the Audacity Project. "Undo" is still available after "Save".

I think that BAK files are still used, but I don't know in what circumstances - the answer will require further investigation, but I've not got time to look into that right now.
