JUST FIGURED IT OUT...keeping here to be helpful.
Here was the problem: I have an Imac with Intel, OSX 10.6.4. Installed Audacity 1.3 beta, worked fine, but it couldn't seem to find a USB mic when plugged in. The Imac's sound card did, the mic showed on the sound meter, and Garage band heard it) But it didn't register in Audacity as an input device. Audacity only "saw" the Imac's "built-in" mic or line.
After posting for help, I went into the MIDI controls, changed the input device to the USB, and the mic now shows in the Core Audio dropdown, and seems to work fine. Closed and reopened and all is well. jc
Imac "hears" USB mic but Audacity doesn't
Forum rules
Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Thanks, I think you mean Apple Audio MIDI Setup? Here are more instructions to do that.jimcarrier wrote:After posting for help, I went into the MIDI controls, changed the input device to the USB, and the mic now shows in the Core Audio dropdown, and seems to work fine.
