Greetings all,
- I have been fighting the same problem that others have posted. noise, static, after about 5 minutes of play. I've tried both the stable and the beta version on my mac. This is a 1.66 ghz, core duo, running OSX 10.4.11.
- I am recording from an Ion turntable (USB port), cleaned the record and needle, start to record and all is right with the world for about 5 minutes....then equal amounts of music and static. When I press the "stop" or " pause" button, then resume monitor,I start off OK for maybe 1 minute before the static comes back...press "stop" Monitor button...then resume recording...OK for 1 minute...then more static.
- I know that its not in the turntable because I as I stop and restart the record monitor, it clears up instantly and completely for about 1 minute...then back to static.
What should I do? What are my options? Thanks

Re: static
I have been diagnosing further and find that after allowing the static to build over time, it turns to a distortion so intense, that it totally consumes all of the music. I then pick up the arm on the turntable, the sound from the speakers goes silent as you would expect, but a substantial waveform is still visable on the meters with no input from the turntable or anything else. Then, I shut down audacity, open it back up, and the waveform zeros out. At that point the music comes back crystal clear...only for about 5 minutes though and I'm back to static then major distortion...ideas ? options? thanks, Walt

Just a thought -
make sure that you do not have "Software Playthrough" selected in "Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O".
