How does the Metadata window work. I want to put artist and album name in once and have it carry over to all songs.

Go to File > Open Metadata Editor. The common info for all songs will then be included when you do an Export Multiple.

@billw58:
Thanks for that reply, but I think the question was:
How can one set "global" values (for all labels/tracks) at once, like "Album name" and "Artist name", so you don't have to set this data for each label individually.
@iew
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your question was like that ?

@all:
At least, that's my question (too). ;-)

I can never be bothered with setting the global metadata in Audacity.

Instead I manage the metadata in my player software (I use iTunes). I export the files as a set of WAVs, the trackname metadata comes across as the filenames set up in labelling - but the other metadata fields are empty on export. I personally find it much easier to use iTunes for the metadata editing.

UPDATE: @LiseloreV - I see from your other post with the usefuul tip about locating your recent iTunes uploads uordering on the the "date added" field that you are also an iTunes user - you may find it interesting to have a look at my workflow in this sticky thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 28&t=18759

I do this all the time. I record an LP, edit and label the tracks, then open the Metadata editor. I fill in the Album Name and Artist Name fields. Then I export multiple to AIF (AIF seems to preserve metadata better than WAV, or iTunes seems to recognize it better?). When I import the AIF files into iTunes all the metadata is there as expected. The "global" fields are correctly filled in, and the "Name" and "Track Number" fields are filled in according to the label name and position.
