Batch Export aif?

I would like to use the Chain feature to process and convert a batch of audio files to aif. However, I only see ExortWAV, ExportFLAC, ExportMp3, ExportOgg in the "Select Command" window. Is there a way to batch export aif files?

Thanks,

John

I later import them into iTunes, and use iTunes to edit all of the meta data in the files. iTunes has many more options for meta data than does Audacity. For some reason, iTunes only writes the meta data to aif and mp3 files, not wav (and it also offers more options for aif files over wav). This means that if I want to read the meta data of wav files in other programs besides iTunes, I can't. I need to work with uncompressed files, so aif remains the only valid choice.

I assume from the response that the answer is "no"?

Thanks,

John

Not if it isn't already listed.

Batch (or Chains) is a sore point. It's a feature everybody wants and it's really hard to design. The current version is baby steps and I suspect custom code must be written for each included module, basically doubling the work without doubling the number of people working on it.

I'm waiting for the recording module. Not sound recording, keystroke recording like in Photoshop. Remember all the things I did to that picture for the last fifteen minutes (brighten, black level, crop, aspect, chroma, gamma, etc.) ? Do that to the pile of files in this folder. Call me if there's a problem.

Does iTunes support FLAC?
If not as standard, can FLAC support be added to iTunes?
(Flac is an open source, lossless audio format that supports metadata)

Unfortunately no. I had the same idea but no cigar.

You have my vote for adding aif export capability to chains.

Thanks,

John

I know the temptation is to gaze only at your problem, but can we add you to the list of people who want full Batch Processing Support instead of shards and fragments here and there?

Regarding iTunes and Flac import, actually you can. If you install Xiph's Flac import component, and then tweak your Flac files with the Set OggS 'drag and drop' application, iTunes will import and play them. Also, with the component alone, they will play from the Finder and with QuickTime. If you also add Spotlight metadata importer components for Flac and Ogg, you can view Flac MD and Vorbis comments in the Finder GetInfo windows.
See: http://people.xiph.org/~arek/ and
http://sbooth.org/importers/

Your mileage may vary. Works here on PPC OSX 10.5.2, QT 7.3, iTunes 7.
Have fun. JK
