Analyze Spectrum Jumps

Post by kozikowski » Fri Nov 13, 2009 12:39 am

I'm in Old, Obsolete, Ancient 1.3.7. MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core Duo, OS-X 10.5.8.

I made a recording of a voice actor and it had a strange whistle in the background. I think there may be something wrong with my field mixer. I launched Analyze Spectrum and sure enough, there was a spike where there should have been just white noise.

I measured the spike amplitude using the Analyze cursor tools, but now I need to measure the noise floor on both sides of that and there doesn't seem to be any way to do that. The cursor tool jumps from major peak to major peak and will not allow me to measure the troughs -- or anything else. I know there is an old complaint about this display missing any guide lines or grid, so short of ruler, carpenter level, and grease pencil on the screen, how do I do that?

How about this?

Open another window (it doesn't matter what it is ), make it short and wide and use it as a ruler? :)

Upgrade to Audacity 1.3.9 - it has a grid (can also be switched off).
