Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

NO SOUND

Post by rsbates01 » Wed Aug 26, 2009 3:35 am

I have downloaded and tried both the stable and beta versions of Audacity to record cassette tapes from my boombox to my computer using the Line In jacks. I have also tried using different 3.5 cables. I have tried all of the tips, fixes, etc that I saw on Audacity's web site, but I still do not get any sound coming in to the computer or it is just not coming through in Audacity. Possibly something else is taking away the sound card use and I do not know how to stop this. I currently run MAC OSX Version 10.5.7 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Please advise for any hints or solutions. Thanks!

Do you use Skype?

The cable you're using is a 3.5mm stereo plug on one end and two RCAs (red and white) on the other, right?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... &CatId=453

Unplug the RCAs from the boom box.
Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input.

Make sure Line-In is selected and the volume control is all the way up.

Pick up the two RCAs by any plastic part with one hand and with one finger of the other, touch the metal tip of one RCA. Watch the little blue patch sound meter. Does it jump when you touch the metal tip?
