Messing up while recording a long piece
When you are recording a long piece, how can you stop it and then record the next segment, then if the you messed up, go back to the segment where you stopped and start recording again from there?

Alternatively, and usually a better method, is to simply record each section on its own track, then use the "Time shift tool" (double headed horizontal arrow) to slide the recordings left/right to where you want them. You can also then use the "Fade" effects so that one track fades into the next.

Normally, any time you press Record, Audacity starts a new track.

When I click 'record' after having already recorded, it just playbacks the previously recording.

Click on Audacity > Preferences, go to the Recording tab and uncheck "Overdub".shroud wrote:When I click 'record' after having already recorded, it just playbacks the previously recording.
Whenever you press Record, Audacity starts recording on a new track from the current cursor position. So I can understand that you might be hearing the previously recorded track, but I can't understand why Audacity doesn't start recording on a new track as well.
