How do I convert .flac files to .mp3? All the menus are grayed when I play a .flac file so that I can't click on 'export' to make it into mp3.

How sure are you that it's a flac file? Did you open it up in QuickTime Player and Apple-I it to get the INFO panel? Typically, Audacity does that when it encounters a damaged file. Does Audacity open up other files and manage them?

Can you open this short piano solo up and convert it?

yes the piano solo plays just fine.

The menus are grey while you play any kind of file. You need to press "Stop".
