Bingo!
george13 and kozikowski, you are both absolute stars. Thank you very much for your time and assistance.
The guilty parties were some very old Nomad Blue Tubes effects components. After removing them, Audacity now opens happily.
Thanks ever so much once again. Case closed!

Re: Required software extensions are missing
Having tried some of the Blue Tubes effects in Windows, there isn't a problem there. They work perfectly. But they are demos. If they expire, or if the .dll/.so plug-in file otherwise cannot verify the plug-in is properly licensed (this could happen if authorisation files are missing, or if the .dll/.so has been moved to another machine) the plug-in will create an error message in Audacity until the plug-in file is removed. I don't think we can do anything about that.

Are you still having this and the crash with a more recent nightly build? The probable reason for the dialog is due to the new builtin VST support.goatherd wrote:Hi,
I'm using the latest daily build (Audacity 1.3.9-alpha) on Mac OS 10.4.11.
When opening the application, this error occurs:
"Required software extensions are missing"
It then directs me to the Pace Anti-piracy site.
Should this be happening? It seems very odd. I would be most grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to what to do in order to get Audacity to open.
Many thanks for your help.

Re: Required software extensions are missing
I get the same dialogue on XP as the above image with the latest Nightly build if I change the system clock to make it appear the licence has expired. If I move the dll to Vista where the computer has never been "authorised" by Blue Tube, I get three various errors (but not the above) in the latest Nightly. So I rather drew the conclusion that if the plug-in is a valid effect but crippled by invalid licensing, we can't get rid of such messages until user removes the plug-in or fixes the licensing. Do you think we can suppress such errors, or even should?Leland wrote:Are you still having this and the crash with a more recent nightly build? No, the error message can not be suppressed and should not. I just didn't read the whole thread...my bad.Gale Andrews wrote: I get the same dialogue on XP as the above image with the latest Nightly build if I change the system clock to make it appear the licence has expired.
