Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Also, i see a potential problem with the latest nightly build. There's a new preference for disabling/enabling plug-ins. But the default seems to be to enable all kinds of plug-ins (AU, vst, ladspa, etc.). But what if one of those causes Audacity to crash at start-up? You never get to change this preference. So in my opinion all binary plug-ins should be disabled by default.

This is currently being discussed on the Audacity developers mailing list. Another option that is being considered is to allow the user to enable/disable effects when they install Audacity. While they want to make effects available, they do not want to force them onto people that do not want them, and certainly do not want these "crash on launch" issues to continue.

ok, tonight I downloaded the latest nightly build, moved the plugin folders away and BINGO! audacity loaded.

I was then able to disable plugins.. it would be a good idea to have this option outside of audacity.. this way the user could pinpoint what plugins is causing problems.

thanks for all you help.

peace
Matt :-)

Glad that you stuck with it and let us know the happy outcome.
This is a new feature in Audacity and they are gradually sorting out the problems that have appeared since releasing it.
