1.3X always crashes

[topazuk]

I am running a Mac Pro with Leopard 10.56 and all build of Audacity since 1.3x have crashed on startup.

I understand this log may not help but this is the only thing I can think of that may help solve this ongoing issue.

You have a very busy machine there. Audacity is a very simple audio program and it likes running on very simple computers. Pretty much not what you have.

Core Video took a dive, JavaScript dumped. Were you on line when the System failed?

I was connected to the net yes, the machine is not loaded with software but of course running a mac pro I do have some pro audio apps and plugins installed.

I will keep trying the betas (1.2x works fine) I did try moving my plugin folders to the desktop but audacity still crashes hard.

I install by making an audacity1.3.8 (or whatever the version is) folder and put all the program pieces and folders in it. Then I drag that to the /Applications folder. Is that how you do it? The more you split up the pieces of the program, the more instability you can have. I know it says you can put anything anywhere, and basic UNIX OS tells us that, too, but as a practical matter, it doesn't always work out that way.

Did you try to trash the original Audacity Preferences? How old was the original 1.2 install? 1.3.8 in particular doesn't like to follow anybody else's act. We're still trying to resolve this.

I brought my MacBook Pro up from 1.3.7 to 1.3.8 by completely trashing 1.3.7 and all its associated support files first. 1.3.8 installed and came up, but it wasn't happy about it. Don't trash your 1.3.7 install dmg files yet.

Hi, I have the relevant files in a dir called Audacity.

I deleted everything related to audacity before installing 1.3.8 (1.3.7 was the same)

I still get the same error when trying to run 1.3.8, yes permissions have been repaired.

I run Audacity, then I get the language dialogue, then the spinning ball.. then

"The application Audacity quit"

yes, I trashed everything and tried to then run the latest build, it comes up with the language box.. then lots of disk activity.. then crash.

the thing is if vst plugins are causing making Audacity crash why not have an option to ignore plugins before it instals or some kind of verifier ?
