Is there a way to make blank mp3 of a certain length that you choose? For example, 5 hours of no sound mp3?

Open Audacity. Generate > Silence. The duration dialog will go out into days if you want it to. Export > MP3.

Remember when you do that that although the output MP3 file will not be all that big, internally, Audacity does all production at super 32-bit mode, so you need to leave 700MB per hour of "performance" room on the drives, plus the export file size, plus at least 10% free space.

Thinking about this a little, I would change Audacity preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and restart. MP3 files made from 32-bit masters do not always play everywhere.

trying to have a playlist with 5 hours of no sound and then gradually increasing volume mp3 for the perfect alarm clock. But I see that there is alarm clock app for iPod touch that plays alarm from a playlist, so I now feel no need for making blank mp3.

<<<for the perfect alarm clock.>>>

Maybe not so perfect. You'd need to wake up every hour or so to make sure the computer didn't crash.

I was thinking of using it on my iPod touch.
