Fast Track Pro interface and sample rates...

Running the latest MacBook Pro, Fast Track Pro interface, Driver file (FastTrackPro_OSX_1.7.1-1.dmg) using Audacity for Mac v1.2.5 for recording.

When I record a 32 bit flaoting file at 44,100Hz, The file is truncated to 16 bits. When I attempt to record a 24 bit, 96khz file tne application crashes.

I bought this interface an hour ago with the promise that it would be fully compliant with many editing systems (including Audacity).

How can I get hi rez recording such as 24 bit 96khz recording with Audacity?

Anybody see this file format problem?

What interface do you use successfully?

Mac/Intel/Leopard only works reliably with Audacity 1.3.

Macs traditionally had troubles with 24-bit. If you beat it up enough, you could usually find a setup or preference that would work, but the problems almost always seem to happen on the Macs.

My Mac/Intel/Tiger machine runs Audacity 1.2.5 perfectly, but it's a dual-boot machine and Mac/Intel/Leopard will not. Known issues. There is no development for 1.2.5, so it's Audacity 1.3.7 for us.

See if the upgrade helps. Remember to trash the audacity.cfg file. The new install has to ask you "English?" when you launch it. Go > Home > Library > Application Support > Audacity. If you have an audacity folder there, bin the whole thing.

I never had any problems with 24 bit files on a Mac (WAV or AIFF). But recording in 24 bit in Audicity seems to cause problems. So the best thing is to record to 32 bit float in Audacity and export to 24 bit wav or aiff.

Unfortunately, the export settings are a bit hidden (I've complained about that already): You have to go to 'Other uncompressed formats' in the export dialog and then header 'wav' or 'aiff' and encoding '24 bit signed pcm'.
