Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

can't fix "editing a clip can move other clips"

Post by sagetyrtle » Wed May 13, 2009 2:35 pm

I'm using 1.3.7, Windows XP.

When I'm in Channel A and I delete a segment, it automatically deletes the same clip from Channel B.

I went looking in Preferences / Interface and found:

"editing a clip can move other clips"

with a checkbox next to it. I un-checked the checkbox, but the same problem continued. I restarted Audacity. Though the box is still un-checked, the problem persists.

Any advice, suggestions would be much appreciated.

There are a couple of possibilities
1) there is a bug in Audacity 1.3.7 that can cause this type of behaviour, but saving the project, shutting down Audacity, then reopening the project will usually fix it.
2) There can be some unexpected behaviour if tracks are linked. Try switching off the link button.

I think there have been changes to both of these issues in the development version of Audacity, so it will be worth grabbing Audacity 1.3.8 when it is released.

Aha! You were right - I went into -

Tracks : Link Audio and Label Tracks

and un-checked it, and the problem went away. Thanks much.
