Using VSTS that aren't effects

Post by washboardstomachs » Fri Apr 17, 2009 6:36 pm

I recently downloaded Audacity. I've been a frequent user of Mixcraft until my computer died and I started recording music on my laptop. Mixcraft eats up too much of my ram. Even though I've got two gigs my laptop seems to dinosaur whenever i try and do anything fancy. In Mixcraft you can build songs with VST plugins like Arturias Analog Factory, Free VST Sound Generators and so on. Is it possible to do this in Audacity as well? I've got midi controllers collecting dust here. Thank you.

Audacity dos not support VSTi's (VST instruments).
It does not actually support any VST's (natively), but you can add the "VST Bridge" to provide partial support for some VST effects (but not instruments).

You may have more luck with "Wavosaur" or "Krystal Audio" - they are not open source, but I think they are both free for personal use. (Also, a good, low cost Digital Audio Workstation is Reaper).
