frozen record cursor

Several times, both with stable and beta versions, when I click the record button, it stays still and just blinks. Sometimes the play button does the same. I reload the program , but it does the same thing. I tried rebooting, and no better. Then, all of a sudden, it decided to work right. What is the problem? I am using XP Prof. Vernon <><

By reloading the program, you really mean finding and trashing the audacity.cfg file, right? Reloading the actual program doesn't do anything.

I would guess the machine is looking for clear, clean hard drive space to work in. When was the last time you error checked and defragmented your hard drive? How full is it? No production machine should be over 90% full.
