Audacity will not launch

It will not launch. I see it in my list of open programs at the bottom of the screen but it will not open.
I can download the old version of audicity but of course that version cannot open the files I created in the beta version.
PLEASE help. I tried uninstalling the program. re-botting and re-installing...still no luck. It just won't launch.
Without it I will not be able to get to my files and much work will be lost.
