MP3 Encoding Library Error

I have installed Audacity 1.2.6 under Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 3 and I have copied lame_enc.dll into C:/program files/audacity. When I try to 'Export as MP3...' I am told that Audacity cannot locate lame_enc.dll, I click on 'Yes' to locate lame_enc.dll and in the 'Where is lame_enc.dll' dialague box I highlight lame_enc.dll and click on open only to get the error message 'Could not open MP3 encoding library!". I have copied lame_enc.dll several times but get the same message . Please help.

You probably have the wrong version of Lame.

Note that you have posted in the 1.3.x section of the forum, but you say you have version 1.2

Upgrade to Audacity 1.3.7 and follow the instructions here: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9175

Hi Steve - Thanks for the help. I orginally installed 1.2.6 but upgraded to 1.3.x to try and get around this problem. I have since deleted 1.2.6 and LAME, then started from scratch installing 1.3 and LAME again but I still get the 'Could not open MP3 encoding library' message on export. I have searched my C drive in case there was another version of lame_enc.dll being picked up but the only version is the new one.

Found a solution for Audacity 1.2.X thanks to Ericman13 under post titled 'Help with LAME MP3 Encoder Install' but this version of lame_enc.dll does not appear to be compatble with Audacity 1.3.X.
