I've been trying to add an effect (EQ) to a recording I'd done & each time, it gets fairly far in the adding process & it freezes up.
I'm not sure where the problem lies- my laptop or Audacity itself.
What to do?

Are these long recordings and do you have the necessary disk space? If you launch Audacity and record for one minute and apply EQ with the same parameters, does the effect not complete then (freezes while the progress dialogue is still visible)? And you are using 1.3.7?
