Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Organizing Effects (Group)

Post by rogrm » Thu Mar 12, 2009 3:46 am

Hi everybody.

Is it possible organize audacity (1.3) effects in groups? Just like categories as "Filters", "Delays/echos", "distortions", "pitch", etc.

Thanx

In 1.3.6 the effects were organized into groups - for 1.3.7 the developers appear to have reverted to the un-grouped menu.

We will turn grouping back on when we have implemented a way for users to turn it on and off. That's not a priority as the grouping was unpopular, because it increased the navigation effort to get to individual effects.

Thanks for that insight Gale. I personally find it easier to work with the ungrouped list.

I personally find it easier to work with grouped lists (lots of plug-ins) but would like to be able to customize the grouping for LADSPA plug-ins as well as Nyquist plug-ins.

We are intending that ultimately but it's likely to be more complex, and would delay reintroducing grouping for longer. In any case grouping of LADSPA plug-ins does not yet work at all on Windows (but does on the other platforms), so that needs to be fixed too.

Part of grouping has to be the ability to assign a hot key.

Noise Reduction is a process where you go back and forth into the tool multiple times to change values. In 1.2 it's a two-step process. In 1.3 it's four or five because of nested groups. You don't need many passes to realize what an intense time waster that is.

I agree we should give more consideration to raising the priority of doing that. It's more generally useful than grouping.

A hot key for "Recall last effect" would help a great deal when using Noise Reduction.

("Recall Last Effect" = bring up dialogue screen/GUI for the last used effect)
