Please Help!!! Recording issues...

Hello All,

Im new to this site but am hoping you can help me!

Stupidly I took the USB cable (thats connected to my soundcard) out of the computer. I have done this before and it took me ages to figure out why sound wasnt coming out of my music production software. I realised that i just needed to reconnect it on the software itself and it was fine. This time though, when I plugged it back in, the sound was coming out of all my programs but on audacity I can import sounds and listen to them, but when i record a sound it simply just records eletrical noise and not the noise it usually records?!
I then uninstalled the sound card completley and also the audacity software. I re-installed the soundcard and then the audacity software but it still is the same. Plays imported music but will not record any sound?! It usually just records any sound coming out of my speakers!
I should stress that I have checked wires ect (although theres not much need because the sound is working on all other programs).

I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP...

SORRY EVERYONE I JUST TOOK MY MICROPHONE OUT OF MY SOUND CARD AND THAT PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE OK NOW! Thankyou for your time anyways
