Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Where is the Stereo Mixer in 1.3.7 for Vista??

Post by hershey_volts » Mon Mar 09, 2009 10:16 am

I've gotten a new computer (which runs on Vista) and have downloaded 1.3.7 just like I had on my other computer. The problem is, I'm trying to record audio that's playing from my computer, so I need the stereo mixer... can anyone tell me where the hell it is? It seems to be a totally different set up than how it worked on my previous computer. Is this because of Vista, or what?? Please help!

It is (partly) because it is Vista and may also be because of your new hardware.
Quite a lot of new PCs (particularly laptops) have "stereo mix" disabled in hardware. On those that do have "stereo mix", it is often switched off by default in the Windows Control Panel.

Thanks, I tried it... but the only thing that seems to show up on my computer is "microphone" and "line in"... here's a screenshot: http://s651.photobucket.com/albums/uu23 ... ording.jpg

<<<I'm trying to record audio that's playing from my computer>>>

I wrote to them and the latest version handles Vista just fine.

Ah yes, that is indeed progress.

Now down in the bottom right corner of your screen, next to the clock, there is a loudspeaker icon. You should be able to open it by double clicking, or perhaps right clicking.

That should open some sort of mixer window.

You then need to find the "Record" settings and select "Stereo Mix"as the recording source.
