Records low 8hz sound

Post by Jeffry83 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 6:25 pm

I have used Audacity for over year to record sound that comes through my system for video's i make for youtube, but since last week i can't record them anymore correctly,it sounds like it's recording in 8hz,when i look in preferences it still at 48000 hz.I have tried everything i could think of,updating my drivers, checking all my settings.I could not do a system restore sadly, for some reason they are all gone!I have added a sample of a song i recorded...

The sample is very useful. It does not show a sample rate of 8kHz, but it does show severe sound quality problems. In particular the frequency response is weighted very heavily towards the treble, with very little bass. Applying Equalization to compensate will make a vast improvement, but does not get to the root of the problem. I am wondering if your computer is a laptop and it is recording the laptop speakers using the internal microphone rather than recording "stereo mix". Check your Windows Mixer settings. (if you are unsure how to do that, click on the "Tutorials" link at top of this page and look for "recording sounds playing on your computer".

I am using a normal desktop pc actually,it's 2 years old right (except for the videocard and CPU that i upgraded last year).I do have a headset but the microphone is not plugged in.And i tried the Equalization but it does not help,it help a bit but than it sounds like the music i am recording is being performed in a hallway

I made a screenshot of audacity, for some reason now my mic on the mixer is stuck on zero. When i try to pull to the right it just bounces back! :?

Have you installed any new programs recently?
Can you record from the headset microphone?
Has ANYTHING been added, changed or updated on your computer recently?

The only big thing in my pc that has changed is that i installed a game demo from Steam, (Empire: Total War).I removed it but also is not the cause...I also find it strange that my pc doesn't hold any recovery points from January.

Check the logs of your anti-virus program, it may have "helpfully" deleted your restore points.
