eg
|///// <some reason sound is up here :S bad and increased db
---------------- < zero point of db- (normal)
< and if loud enough here to. (normal)
i have tried reinstalling it and everything i don't know if i have changed a setting or something but i realy need help cause i dunno what to do.

I presume you mean that you are recording from "Stereo Mix"? (try to avoid too many abbreviations, they make it difficult for people to understand what you are talking about).
I'm a bit concerned about the off-centre waveform (DC offset), that should clearly not be happening. My first suspicion is that something has gone wrong with your sound card drivers. Are there any other symptoms (in Audacity or any other program)?
You could try un-installing and reinstalling your sound card.

I've seen that too. I use to the Stereo Mix to record MIDI files (can't find a decent conversion program so..) Seen it with 1.3.5, 1.3.6 and well I ain't using 1.3.7 yet till all the yelling and screaming dies down.

Been there, done that, and it did it on my Compaq that I was using for a long time and I now have a newer Dell (both XP Pro) that it does it on.
I haven't tried recording from any other source on either system (like Line In or from an interface). I have dedicated PC just for recording and I don't get it on that (but that is using a Presonus Inspire firewire interface)

That could be a wise move

I hear that the developers were planning to release a bug-fixed version on 1.3.7 but I'm not sure if that has happened yet.
Audacity 1.3.8 is probably not far away - I'm using the alpha version, and it is stable on this machine.

Have a look at "Timidity+". Set it up with a nice sound font (such as "Fluid") and you can get excellent quality conversions.

It definitely seems to be sound card / driver related. I've never seen it when a good quality sound card is used with good drivers, only on laptops with dodgy on-board sound.

Well once I saw the MP3 conversion was hosed up again, that was a deal killer for me with 1.3.7.

Thanks. I have a look see at that. I use a converter that takes WAV files and turns them into MIDI files, mainly to get the orchestra parts and the string ensemble in there is pretty decent sounding. Some of the conversions are a little funky but I clean them up using the MIDI editor in Cubase.

Both of these are desktops but they have SoundMax on-board sound cards. I just switched the main one over to a M-Audio Sonica USB sound card and I can hear a difference in the sound quality. Of course I lost the Stereo Mix option on this machine (that only has a Line IN). I might try routing the tape outs on the stereo amp I'm using to run my monitors with into the M-Audio just to see if works.
Thanks
Tony
