Why oh WHY THE continued CRASHES?!

Can anyone tell me how to stop the crashes? Just simple mundane tasks, like silencing, splitting, ect.
It says, Audacity has encountered a problem and needs to close.

So it shuts down.

Makes it sooooooooooo effing frustrating! At this point I cant do anything. All it does is crash over and over with every editing move.

Why does it crash so much???

What version of Audacity are you using?
What is your operating system (including Service Packs).
What is your computer?
How much free disk space do you have on your C: drive?
How much free RAM is available (real RAM, not counting swap file).
When did you last defragment your hard drive?
When did you run a full virus / spyware scan?
What other applications do you have running? (including all of those little icons near the system clock).
Do you have the VST bridge installed?
Any other information that may help us to diagnose the problem?

My favorite problem of all those is running out of room on your hard drive. It's a sneaky problem.

My Computer > Right Click C: > Properties. That should tell you the size of your drive and how much you have used. If it's over 90%, you need to throw away or move stuff to make room. Editing audio or video takes a bunch of high quality clean room on your hard drive.

Like who? You mean like the team of dedicated, highly skilled, unpaid programmers that created Audacity and continue to develop it to this very day? Yes, they are working toward releasing the next stable version (1.4).

Like others I am returning to 1.3.6
or 1.2. . .

By the way, it's a bit difficult to diagnose a problem from a statement like "it doesn't work".
Try saying to a car mechanic "My car doesn't work properly, what's wrong with it?"
He will probably want a bit more information, like "have you driven it into a lamp post? Have you put gas in it?...."

We we would appreciate people working with us (thinly veiled 'threads' notwithstanding) because anyone looking in a mirror is looking at the development team. We are intensely beating up several 1.3.7 problems over in Mac Land and are close to supplying a fix for those people.

Now we need Windows people to contribute. And we're not buying the excuse that you have to go wash your socks or something.
