I'm using windows XP and installed Audacity 1.3 Beta (unicode). Spend most of the time trying to get it to work. The aux/line in tab works intermittent and only shows the microphone setting 90 percent of the time. Removed and reinstalled audacity to get it to work for a day. Now nothing..
Any help appreciated.

If you have settings that seem to change themselves, you may need to do a virus scan. I mean a real one where you turn your computer over to it for an hour, not the little one that lives in the background. Also Microsoft has an on-line virus checker that you can run in addition to yours.
Error check your drive and defragment. My Computer > c: > Tools > Error Check (don't fix anything) and Defragment.
While you're in there, look at the amount of stuff on your drive. No production machine should be over 90% full.
In Windows Audacity 1.3, you have an audacity.cfg file hidden somewhere on your machine. Trash that file and Audacity will start over from First Birthday when launched fresh.
