Vista - can't export MP3

I am a veteran Audacity user... mostly on XP.

I tried this same task on 1.26, 1.34 and 1.36 --- no go anywhere.
(and yes, I installed the Lame dll)

Anytime I try to export as MP3, the app just locks up.
Have to kill it thru Task Manager.

I don't have Vista, so I can't try it, but it may be worth trying a different version of Lame - do you have the latest version from the main Audacity web site?

This isn't Vista64, right? I've exported MP3s using 1.2.6 on Vista32 (home premium)....but it's been a while, so I'll try it again when I get home tonight and report back just to be sure. I'll also give it a shot on 1.3.6.

I will try a different LAME... this is 397, but I will look for some others...

That's a sweet sounding rig.

Anyway, I did try exporting to mp3 (single tracks, and multiple tracks) in 1.2.6 and in 1.3.6 and it never failed. I have Lame v3.97 and used a bitrate of 192kbps. My project rates were all 44100Hz.

I have Vista Business 32-bit. I am using 1.36 Beta. For some reason, I was able to export MP3's about 1 month ago. Today, I get the same hanging problem. I even get the same hang when I try to export to WAV. The only thing I am able to save is an Audacity AU project. Anyone out there might be able to help?

Yeah, I found a workaround... I ditched Audacity, and went back to Cool Edit Pro.
At least it allows me to chop my MP3s and actually SAVE them again.

Okay... let me clarify.

I cannot export as ANYTHING. No WAV, no MP3, no nothing.

That's quite a crucial bit of information. I'm surprised you didn't think of including it in this topic.
