Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

I've not got a Windows machine handy at the moment, but you should have more than that. There should be the "Change Speed"/Tempo/Pitch effects for a start.

We need accurate detail now: Which version of Audacity do you have (look in the "About" part of the Help menu)
Which version of Windows?
What is the exact path to your Audacity program folder?
What is the exact path to the plug-ins folder?

It may be a bit tricky, but can you also take a screen shot of the Effects menu? (the "print screen" button on your keyboard should capture the screen to the clipboard so that you can paste it into any graphics editing program - trim it down, then upload it to the forum - details here: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=7889 )

That could be the problem - I don't think that is the default directory for Audacity 1.3.6
It should be something like:
C: Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)Plug-Ins
That worked for me, thank you.

Oddly enough, all of the plug ins show up in 1.2, just not 1.3, even though they were all installed in their respective plug-in directories.

Audacity 1.2:
C:Program FilesAudacityPlug-Ins

Audacity 1.3:
C:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)Plug-Ins

Wierd . . .

I finally found out what was happening. I had to access "preferences" > interface and unclick "CleanSpeech Mode" at the bottom. It all works now.

I just have to find out what CleanSpeech really does.

It's playtime folks!

I do some podcasting and I tried "cleanspeech" on an mp3 podcast file. It is great, essentially a macro that applies a number of preset filters to clean up podcast type files. It works great and saves me the time of having to apply filters manually.

Great stuff.

See the "Tips" and "Tutorials" links at the top of this page.
The 1.3/1.4 manual is not yet finished and currently runs to over 240 pages (English language version).

(mental note to self - there should perhaps be a mention of Clean Speech mode in the "Tips" section)
