task bar appearance problems

Post by debroland » Tue Dec 23, 2008 3:44 pm

where there is supposed to be file, edit, etc. I get nothing but a bunch of question marks and a single letter for example ???(F) and the menu under it looks similar. Any messages that appear such as me needing to locate LAME also appears the same way. The only way I am able to use this task bar is because i am already familiar with Audacity when I used it on my old computer. how do I get it to appear normal? The way it's supposed to look? I downloaded 1.2.6 onto my new computer using VISTA OS. My old computer used windows xp and I had no trouble with the program.

Sounds like the language setting in your preferences file is corrupted.

As you are using 1.3 the easiest way to reset the preferences is to delete the audacity.cfg file (C:Documents and Settings<your_user_name>Application DataAudacityaudacity.cfg ) - just note that this will reset all your preferences, you may even need to reset it to 2-channel sterer though IIRC I think this is the default in later versions of 1.3.x
