Only LEFT Channel Records

I'm trying to record some old albums using a Crosley CR249 USB turntable and an IBM Thinkpad with Windows XP. Audacity 1.2.6 is installed and I've set preferences to record from the USB Audio Codec and CHANNELS are set to 2(stereo).

When I MONITOR input, the METER TOOLBAR shows plenty of activity on the LEFT channel but very little activity on
the RIGHT. When I RECORD, the LEFT channel records and shows a healthy waveform but the RIGHT channel is
flat lined!

Does anyone know how I can get strong levels to record on both channels?

Cheers.

Some turntables ship with the cartridge, needle, and headshell in a separate sturdy box. Pull the headshell from the tone arm and replace it a couple of times and see if maybe the Right Channel doesn't come back--or at least change. If you do get change, then you might be able to go in there with Q-Tip cotton-wool swabs and alcohol and get it to come the rest of the way back.

Thanks for the feedback Koz.

I found a listing of similar problem that also suggested my stylus may not be sending the full stereo signal to the PC. So... I suspect the problem could well be with my USB turntable. It has a fixed (ie soldered) connection to the stylus head. Only the stylus is removable, so I can't unplug to re-seat the connection. I'll contact Crosley and see if I need a replacement turntable.

Thanks again.
