problems getting vista to work w sound activation via transport in the beta version..worked once or twice no reliability

This means you're possibly the key tester of this new functionality!
That's one of the main things that beta is for - to let us users test functionality and provide good bug reports back to the developers.
Do try and keep accurate records of your set-up at the time, and to note down exactly what happens - and then post back please.
