Vista Preferences Crash

Hi.
I installed Audacity 1.3.6 on my new computer, but whenever I go to Edit-Preferences, or otherwise try to acces the Preferences menu, Audacity crashes. I understand this seems to be a compatibility issue with Vista SP1, but Audacity works fine on my laptop, which also has Vista SP1. Any ideas on how to fix this?
