Hey, I've recently done some VHS to DV transfers and after getting the video looking good, I noticed the sound quality was lacking.
I have already made MP3 files of the soundtracks of all the videos. I want to use Audacity to repair the audio. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Here is an example of the audio I need to repair: LINK

If it's just low level, you can use the Normalize or Amplify tools to make it louder. If you played back the non-HiFi sound tracks on the tape and then compressed it ratty MP3, then you may have no hope. We warn people about creating master works in MP3. MP3 damages the sound and it may be nice that the show takes up a tiny amount of drive space, you can't do production later.

Re: Lowering/Repairing Captured Audio
My problem is actually that the sound was captured too loudly.
What I've decided to do is do a new audio capture of the videos' audio, using the mp3s of the video files as reference on syncing them with the video.
(Sorry that that link didn't work. The forum won't let me upload mp3, and audio hosting is surprisingly not as common as video hosting these days.)
