Can't Right-Click To Open Audacity From Explorer

I used to be able to right-click on a song file and "Open With" Audacity.

But ever since upgrading to the latest version, whenever I right-click, I have to "Open With"→ "Choose Program" and select Audacity.exe.

But lately, even when I click on Audacity.exe, nothing happens. It doesn't select and I can't open the file directly with it.

What am I/have been doing wrong?

You mean that Audacity no longer runs at all?
Do you have any other problems on your computer?

No, I mean Audacity doesn't run at all.

I haven't had any problems with my computer.

Something seems to have been badly screwed up - let's see if we can clear it.

Try this:
1) log into Windows with an Administrator account name
2) Uninstall all instances of Audacity
3) Go to "Program Files" and delete all Audacity folders.
4) Go to http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/audacitydl.html , scroll to the bottom of the page and right-click over "Audacity 1.2.6 reset Preferences .reg file for Windows"
5) Save this .reg file to your drive
6) Double-click the saved .reg file and click "yes" when asked if you want to add the information to the Registry
7) Go to "Documents and Settings<user name>Application DataAudacity" (change <user name> to match your user name) and find the file "audacity.cfg" (it is usually a hidden file, so you need to enable viewing hidden files)
8) Repeat step 8) for all user accounts.
9) Download and install Audacity 1.3.6 (say "yes"when it asks if you want to associate Audacity Projects with Audacity)

You now have a clean install - Try opening it from the new Desktop icon.

There will be several pop up messages when Audacity firsts runs - things like the "Welcome" screen, and when you export a file a message about it mixing down your project. Do not permanently dismiss these pop-ups, they are there because they include important information. Read them every time that you use Audacity until you know them off by heart and thoroughly understand them (Reading the instructions is half way to becoming an expert  )

Good luck.
