Can't record and listen to something at the same time

Post by EponineJavert » Wed Dec 10, 2008 10:06 pm

I just recently got a laptop with Vista, and I've had a lot of problems using Audacity with it - it used to crash but once I got the Beta version it didn't. It also used to only record one track, but once I turned off the 'play other tracks while recording the new one' I could record multiple tracks. But the problem is that I often record myself several times singing different harmonies, or sing along to a MIDI that has the parts to a song on it - but if I try to listen to the previous tracks I've recorded or the MIDI, it doesn't record well (or really at all). I updated the drivers yesterday, and checked for updates today but they're all good. I've also tried using headphones, going to Preferences and changing from 'Conexant High Definition' to 'Microsoft Sound Mapper' but it still does the same thing.

Let me know if you need to know anything more and thanks in advance.

You didn't type the words: "I followed the instructions on the wiki page." so I'll assume you didn't see it.
