Bug? Channels available in 1.2.6 are missing in 1.3 beta

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

I can confirm this problem. I use the Delta 1010LT soundcard from m-audio and it does'n detect the 8 analog-input channels the hardware provides. Probably you could implement an option in the settings called "force multitrack" before you get the detecting correct"

Thanks in advance, Simon

As I stated in my last post in this thread, sound cards that recorded multi-channel before with Audacity will do so again in the latest development builds, or wait a few days more for 1.3.7 Beta to be released. The Delta 1010 LT will then record multiple channels simultaneously into Audacity using the "Multi" input - if you can find older drivers from August 2007 or earlier.

"Force multitrack" is not an option, because most multi-channel devices on Windows require ASIO drivers to present multiple channels properly as coming from one device, rather than presenting each stereo pair as a separate device. Due to licensing issues, Audacity only supports ASIO if the user compiles this support in themselves for their own non-distributable use. See Multichannel Recording on our Wiki.

1.3.8 recording channel support

Given there are now a number of 24 channel devices on the market, we've now removed the hardcoded restriction to 16 maximum in our source code.

Audacity now offers the same number of recording channels as are offered by the device (up to a maximum of 256 (!)). So devices offering 24 channels should now be supported (though on Windows, this will mostly still need you to compile Audacity with ASIO support).

If the device returns no channels to PortAudio, Audacity will default to the old system of offering a hardcoded 16 channels in Preferences irrespective. This should still permit using the "multi" device on some multichannel devices to record multiple channels without ASIO, where the drivers permit that. But if any of you with such a device can test this for us, we would appreciate it.

Here is a Windows build (2000 and later) with the latest code:
http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/audacity- ... -alpha.zip

For those compiling Audacity from source code so as to build in ASIO
support, here is the CVS HEAD code:
http://audacityteam.org/community/developers#cvs

If it works, this new support will be in 1.3.8 Release.

Thanks
